This quote is getting too big, so i'll "spoiler" it:

It's a battle message between Bird ---> Tokia. Didn't Maeson test all of these? I included the entire sequence, in case it was needed.
Beautiful! Remember Swordmaster, maybe only two people have triggered this. I won't start processing Maeson's input on battle messages until next week at the earliest. As for all of your reports since I mentioned leaving my up-to-date files in another city, I won't get re-united with them until maybe Sunday night. If everything goes according to plan, I will release another hotfix sometime Monday. As soon as I incorporate Maeson's work, we will release a revision. Or I may wait until you declare you are officially finished with the game. Most of what you have reported recently is easily corrected.

BTW, this is what didn't get translated in that screen...

; (Block 004) String: 61
; 「子供にしてはなかなかの弓さばきだ<end>
4:61[end]

A loose translation: (Someone help me if I need it!)

That's a powerful bow in the hands of a mere child who will judge when it's proper to wield it![end]

However, given that the three strings go together, and space is VERY limited, I would probably put the fragmented remark together this way:

(If she is shooting at Bird...)

Ow, a huge bow for a child...![end]
But for a youngster...[end]
Tokia handles it very well!![end]

Of course, I want to see what Maeson wrote first!

I did try them all.

And obviously I saw it, and I pointed it and a the other small glitch in the text files I already linked a few pages back, the sames ones i've been updating here and there and I can link them again if you don't want to go on a quest to find them:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/neg2pff3a3zq3 ... s.rar?dl=0

I didn't want to report it again as it's something Wildbill will be looking at a later time, seeing how it's a small piece of a low-priority part of the translation and most people won't see it.

At least I don't see the point of doing it when I already did the other thing. I'm obnoxious enough already, lol.

You're doing just fine, Maeson.

My apologies, Maeson-san. I had mistaken silence for "no problems found". I should have realized the file you uploaded was all-inclusive.

Don't think about it, it's just that what I said, if I already mentioned it on the text files, and it's decided that this will be looked later, there is no much point for my part to bring it back again, and if I was writing things in this post it would be terrible for finding other reports between so much text, it would be brutal and hard to follow, lol.

As far as technical glitches there are very few (Four instances, one is this one we're talking about, the other 3 are the "Letter missing a piece of itself"), which is pretty impressive all things considering.

Those "gappy" letters at the beginning of sentences are nothing more than another manifestation of a text overrun in this particular game. Some game fonts have different coding routines that cause text overruns to simply run out of the boxes and "disappear" off the edge, like a snake hanging off a table. The main (VWF) script font in SSMS appears to wrap or loop back around into itself, like a snake swallowing its tail.

The SSMS 8X8 menu font uses a different routine with a fixed width. Had we been able to use a VWF in the menu font, we might have gotten Lind(a)'s full name displayed, but certainly not Hekemeke (Helper Hocus). We also shortened Kupikupi to Kupi, but the longer version could have been used in the story. With that character uttering "kupi" at the end of many sentences, we figured we already had plenty of kupis to go around!

Oh, I see. So they don't actually disappear, they just got walled and obscured by the text itself. Then it sounds a little less hard to solve. Or at least easy to identify...

I don't find the limitation of the character's names on the menu that problematic, after all you can read their full name in other places and it's functional enough. You also have the sprite of the character, so it's not like you are going to confuse characters or something...

And I think one Kupi is enough, too. He's normally called that by his friends, so it's normal to shorten his name, and makes text easier to boot. You can't expect to be called by your full name every time!

Just imagine how hard life would be if you were friend of Clabberdeen Clothsnyffer Leetzlewiffle Poopiewouffen Von Venuncio Kraken-Litcher Rachetface the 14th, Lord of Odorburg!

Yep, I'd introduce that guy once at the dinner table, then I'd fire off a 12 gauge to wake everyone up so their suppers wouldn't get cold! Afterwards, I call him Clabbo, "Clab" for short. This isn't the first game we've done with shortened names in menus. I always try to find spellings such that the first four letters appear as logical nicknames. I've know actual Lindas who go by Lind or even Lynn.

In SSMS-II I've got a fighter named Gabriel who I call Gabe in the menus. One transliteration was "Gabro" Couldn't do much with that one, needing a four-letter nick.

Maybe it's because i've been to much time on the internet, but reading Gabe makes me only think of one person... And his hate for the number 3. Maybe SSMS II make tht disappear a little...

I usually find myself looking for names to put in my characters whenever I happen to play a game with limited letters. Sometimes you don't have many options, which sucks.

Although, to be fair, I always end up giving silly names.

I think gabe works perfect for shortening, as gabe IS a real name any hows.

While it is not a big deal, I was wondering if you guys were aware of this....

Image

This is what it looks like if you try to change equipment during battle.

Also, I was wondering if anyone ever found Poyon's spells other than the 14 already known. This game causes so many questions that nobody seems to know the answers to. For instance, Kupi has a spell called Jewel that only works on certain foes (Pug Rangers and Large Goopers are all that I've found) and causes them to become an item called "Jewel". The description says it's valuable, iirc, but only sells for 500 Pearls (I think). You can use them on your party from the menu, but not in battles. As far as I can tell, they don't do anything at all. There is also an item (Flush Seed, I think, found 2 so far) that claims to cure status ailments that, when items are sorted, appears above the World Map (where I assume event items are located). Just like most event items, trying to use it does nothing but cancels out the menu. And you can't use it in battle either. You can, however, sell them for a low amount. Things like these are so frustrating to try to figure out. I keep feeling as though I'm *almost* about to discover something, but just find dead ends. Any insights, guys?
