Okay, it's done, all the combinatios from making two characters interact while in battle:

Here's a rar, with 13 text files, one for each character:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/neg2pff3a3zq3 ... s.rar?dl=0

I did it this way, here is an example:

Hero and Bird (This shows 1st, who is "attacking" and 2nd, who is "attacked")

Narrator (The name of the character that talks in case of the Hero, I used Narrator as it's told in that perspective)
"Hero thanked Bird..." (Lines of the 1st character)
Bird (The second character in the conversation)
"I'll always be loyal, so..." (2nd character lines)
"Don't worry about me!"
This seems to work fine, as is mentioned through the game that Bird is a just and honorable person. (A personal opinion based on how the characters felt through my playthrough)

I know it's not all you needed, because you asked for what could they say in a wittier fashion, as this are raw translations, but I don't know if I'm important or good enough for it and I really don't want to put my hands all over other people work.

I can try if you want, as the long part was making the lists and seeing how everything worked.

There's also 3 screenshots with the small 1st Letter bug, it only happened three times, that's almost nothing compared with all the text!
Got it... Thanks! It's going to take me a while to process this and do a hotfix. The bug reports are piling up on me, too, and I'm scattered a bit thin at the moment, but I'll get it done.

Go at your own pace, this seems pretty low priority compared to other things.
I mean, I discovered it doing stupid things that most won't try. And it's pretty much "flavor text", so not problem.

Should I then write my ideas for the conversations, or that can wait (or not be needed at all)?

There are a lot of battle messages between party members I think. It was like first in the giant file that I looked at, and thus I was pretty confused. I don't think I ever looked back at those much. Anyway, I think it goes from 4:0 to 5:150 though the last parts I have stuff like Poyon trying to eat/lick everyone in the party and kupi giving everyone compliments.

Example:

//<5:87>
//「トキアさんの天候魔法はスゴイですね<end>
Tokia, your weather magic is amazing.<end>

//<5:88>
//「バブくんの菌魔法もスゴイわよ<end>
Your bacteria magic is amazing too, Babu.<end>

Both 004 and 005 are the entire set of conversations, the parts you mention with Poyon and Kupi are their conversations (Poyon conversations are almost always about food), and no wonder you were confused, each string has part of a conversation, some of the lines are somewhat important to the plot or character development, and others are just silly talk.

That could make anyone doubt what kind of dialogues these are or where they could be used.

Odd that the first and only time I checked out the Throw skill McGee was in the party. I had a feeling it would be present in the original Japanese ROM.

I would like to point out that I rarely use states with this game. And when I do load a state, I try to save to .srm as soon as possible, then close the emulator and load it back up. With all that said... I found another typo. lol

"than than"

Also, another one of these...

The "s" is the very end of Holy Drop's description. As far as I know, it's the only item with enough letters to see this.

One more thing. It's not a report, as I'm sure it was intended even in the Japanese ROM. I just don't know why.

Should I really be able to sell this? lol
The double word is fixed in my master.
Prevent Status Effects changed to Avert Status Effects. That should fit without creating a "ghost".

Thanks!

No problem. Doing my small part to fine tune D-D's work is almost as fun as playing this awesome game. Besides, I might as well put my grammar nazi tendencies to some use. Not to mention my abysmal luck at stumbling upon game-destroying bugs.

The monster on the left is using Cure-all, which looks like a regular attack. I think with enhanced damage. Surely that's not right....

Heh, I believe you're onto something! What a rolling snowball we started by fixing hyphen support. Where Cure-all once fit (wrongly) just happened to be a healing skill. Once that shifted, Cure-all had to land on something. What I need now is the original Japanese, then we'll re-translate it and get everything squared away.

BTW, Grammar nazi's are welcome here, just not in the game itself, hee-hee...! (Poke at Maeson and SylarDean!)

Still need to round up a report on McGee's Magic Eye and play Swordmaster's second save.

And the description of Kyra's Ice Kiss is a bit misleading.

What it actually does is damage the entire enemy group exactly equal to her current HP minus 1, leaving her with that 1 remaining HP. Which is immensely useful against the Steel Worms in the screen shot. (If they don't run first...)
Okay, I'm on this now, in between PC rebuilding tasks!
Would like some input here. We ran into this long English world thing in SSMS-II (not sure how we'll handle it yet) for elemental weaknesses. The Japanese need a Kanji or two. We have names as long as "Thunder". You get some enemy with weaknesses to everything, and you run off the screen.

I wish we could use icons, but... Okay, we can make them: F, L, E, T, B, W, etc. or Fi, Li, Ea, Th, Ba, Wi. That's about the only games in town with no extra line available.

As for ice kiss, I might be able to squeeze in something such as:

DMG = HP -1
One HP left

Does this work?

I could never kill those metal monsters.

Say, did someone give me the name of a metal monster early-on that needed a better name?

Are icon totally out of the question? If not, I could probably wrangle some up (ie. Steal them from other games).

Bongo` usually doesn't prefer to use them, but we did in battle menu selections that way. If the game will support them and Bongo` will code them, we could use them in both games, and I would certainly go for that!

BTW, I have sent the Oni-II title page off to FlashPV.

I find myself guilty of that one... But I regret nothing!

About Cure-All... is not going to leave us alone... Is it?

I feel bad for all the problems that is giving you guys.

...Well, I think Fi, Li, Ea, Th, Ba, Wi, would be enough. After all, if someone is going to play SSMS is because he/she wants more RPG goodness and most probably knows how "the tropes" of the genre go.

Besides, a line in the readme explaining this would be more than enough, (Although of course, like manuals most people don't read it, lol).

Icons would be awesome, but if they are more of a problem and it's not worth the time and effort, I don't mind at all.

I think that it would do fine with that description. About the steel worms, I only killed them by critical hits... 9999 exp by each one is kind of crazy.

Oh and by the way, the Pug Rangers (Those monsters that shouted colors that you guys fixed) give A LOT of experience too. And they were fixed for good, as I havent' seen a single problem with them since then.

I like weird enemies that act very different compared to your average monsters in RPG. They add flavor to the game, and this one has a good small ammount of them.

Hmmm, I remember the "Steal Worm" that was changed to "Steel Worm" and the conversation about "Devil Gauge" and the possibility to change into "Devil Cage".
