On Nycalo Mountain, when taking a Porhoi tree Inez, the text is painfully slow. I think there's a routine that "plays" the text. The audio sample doesn't loop so the music stops before the text is finished. This also happens when the Porhoi tree sings the song as well.

Some hacking might be needed to time the text a bit better to the song.

I hate that damn tree. im sure we just bypassed the timing and text because it wsas in sync with each character displayed which sucks for english and a VWF routine.

On a side note, a similar timing issue in the intro/preview (not sure what it's called. Just let the start screen go a bit to see a preview of the game) for Chaos Seed caused us (Bongo`) many headaches... There was a bunch of hacking he had to do because changes to dialog caused the characters to walk in random ways and totally NOT do what you see in the original ROM. Eventually, he got it pretty close to the original, but I think there was still one section that was off a little bit. We did our best, though ;P

I wonder if it's possible to keep the text for that section as a non-breaking space or a space, and then overlay text on top from somewhere else?

Hate to break this to you, Draken, But SEKRET GAME(???) has the same timing issues.
Not sure how to deal with that one since the scripting code I am not familiar with. :(

Shh!!! Don't tell them about DA SEKRET! Hehe. I will probably announce it in the next month or so ;)

Sorry to hear, however, that there is no current fix for the timing issue in SSMS-2 :(

You could make one and a half words appear instead of one and put hyphens in the words that are incomplete to give it more of an effect to compensate for the voice to text speed adjustment. The shorter words aren't too much of a problem hopefully.

Gerb may be right in the text layering though. Or those ideas could be combined to help fix the text problem

These are the lyrics I found on the walkthrough if other users here want to see if they can take a crack at it:

Japanese:

Anata no kokoro ni yami ga otozuretara
Watashi wa Kazefuri no oka no kaze ni natte
Anata no kokoro o fukinuketai
Anata no kokoro no ame ga futtara
Watashi wa Nycalo no taki no kiri ni natte
Anata no kororo ni niji o kaketai
Kokoro o Hiraite Kokoro o hiraite

English:

When your heart falls into darkness,
I will be the wind on Windy Hill
And sweep your heart away.
When it's raining in your heart
I will be the waterfall mists of Nycalo Mountain
And create a rainbow in your heart
Open your heart, Open your heart

Not saying I'm an expert at this stuff, I honestly know jack squat about programming and translation, but you may have to bite the bullet on this one and make a bit of a sacrifice to fix the problem.

If the VWF routine screws with the timing, what if you coded an exception to load a fixed width font instead?

Here is the present reading. I'm willing to rewrite it any which way to fix the timing, but I prefer to write poetry in my own style rather than load sometime all chopped-up and truncated just to get perfect timing. I start out more ethereal but personalize the impact at the end.

.POINTER = $215F35
; Start = $217738
; あなたの心に 闇がおとずれたら
; わたしは 風鳴りの丘の風になって
; あなたの心を ふきぬけたい
; あなたの心に あめがふったら
; わたしは ナイカロの滝の霧になって
; あなたの心に にじをかけたい
; 心をひらいて 心をひらいて
When darkness assails the
senses, I'm a breeze from
yon hills whispering softly
in the ear! When storms
ravage the soul, I'm Nycalo's
misty waterfall shining
rainbows of hope! Free your
mind, unshackle your heart,
and come home to me, Love![end]
