I can only guess that the lack of support for PS3 is tied to the absence of a release date. I felt the announcement was very reactionary to the impending (now released) fan translation for the PSP version. Who knows when it is going to get released... Sometimes next year probably? If it were going to be this year, you would think that they would have mentioned it. Next year, you will definitely see the new generation of consoles getting more games, with fewer and fewer people releasing for last gen. Not really sure why no Vita support, though... You'd think it would be easy enough to do...

Heh, they may use the fan translation. And before anyone gets upset. It isn't like us fan translators actually hold rights to what we do. We're the ones on the short end of the stick as far as the law is concerned, and if the original right holders wanted to rip us off, we'd probably just be up @#$% creek without a paddle.

Though, to avoid the backlash, they probably wouldn't, but I'm just waiting. I'm betting at some point it does happen.

I was always under the impression that fan translation groups had to be paid if their work is used, since XSEED paid Deuce for using his fan-translated script in Ys 1&2 and Oath in Felghana for their official releases. I guess you learn something new every day, though. :o

Considering we didn't get Dragon Quest 7 for the 3DS at E3, I wonder if a fan translation effort would do anything like FF0. In fact I wonder how different the 3DS version is compared to the original, wouldn't be possible to save a lot of effort using that translation?

It is far less headaches for the original company to do that, yep, but fan translations don't really have a legal leg to stand on if they want to rip us off. It isn't like we went and licensed the original work to begin with to do a fan translation. They can be nice and pay for the use, but don't think for a second they are required to. Nor that a fan translator would win in court if they decided to pursue that route. In fact it would probably end quite badly for them, with them being forced to pay royalties for using the work without permission (not selling it doesn't make a difference) and pulling their work from the web as well.

I may not be a lawyer and I don't pretend to be, but just from previous similar litigation it is pretty clear how that would wind up.

Not having much time to play anymore, but I do get a break of sorts in August. I've been playing Mario Kart 8 and might start up Bravely Default pretty soon.

I hear ya ultpaladin. After the baby came, I find it incredibly difficult to find time for any hobby-related activities... :(

I have been playing some FFV on the iPad because I have a HUGE backlog of iOS games... Now that I mention it, my PS-Plus subscription is consistently adding more and more to my list of games I need to get to. ARGH! No TIME!

I've been doing some behind the scenes work for D-D, so don't worry, I'm still getting some retro SNES action!

I started playing Bravely Default. I'm still trying to figure out how to use other player characters effectively. Spot Pass seems to dump the characters into the rebuild a village scenario and can also be summoned. I'm still not sure how the characters from friend's codes work. They don't seem to be added to my rebuilding town.

Well, although its cutting into my Princess Minerva time (this is one game that takes priority over hacking for me), I'm playing Ar NoSurge. Love the collectors edition they sold through NIS America, very much like the old NIS America Ar Tonelico sets. And this is my favorite PS2/PS3 series.

I haven't been able to play many games for the last 6 months, but I am playing Tales of Hearts R for the Vita. I'm actually playing it on Playstation TV and it works out pretty well. I'm looking forward to trying out Persona 4 on it too.
