Hi guys, I thought I would create a new post to showcase and keep track of my 'World Map' editing projects for the Snes games you guys translate, and maybe a few others I work on. I will repost maps I have previously worked on here so they can be listed here as I progress.. These maps below were my first attempt at creating a new map from scratch, I didn't like the game's original map look so I took it upon myself to create one myself using the original as the main layout. I used an internet online editing map creator software called.. Inkarnate. I think it took me around 3 hours total to get everything right in the new map.. I was very pleased with my first attempt. Well, being a Super Shell Monster's Story fanatic (thanks to Dynamic Designs) it was inevitable I would try to translate and rework the official SSMS-2 World Map for D-D ready for when they decide to release their English patch for it. This World Map has been a challenge for me, having to deal with creases from the scanned picture, removing things such as the white square name boxes and replacing them. This one is just about finished, all I need to do is find the name of that last cave and it is actually done.. YAY! EDIT: This map according to WildBill is no longer nearly finished, lol, apparently there's loads more to be added to it now .. hahaha. SSMS-2 - Original Map. Spoiler! :

Below is my newest map project as of 18/11/2017. Being that D-D are working on this translation now and are edging closer to the finish line I came across this World Map in the forums so decided to give it a translation for them to release along with the translation when it is ready to go. The work is pretty much only just started so it's work in progress for the moment so I will post updates and pictures below every now and then so you can follow the progress on it. As you will see by the second picture below that only the right side of the map and a little bit of the middle part has been worked on so far. Aretha 2 - Original Map. Spoiler! :

Been a while since I done any map work so with the release of the fantastic Snes game - Stories of Ihatovo in English I decided to make a world map as I played it.. I made one in colour and then a second map edited to look like an old picture/photo. Both created on the 31/12/2018. Ihatovo - Colour World Map. Spoiler! :

AH! that's great I can add in a few names in English once the map has been completely erased of that gibberish. I WAS wondering if those blue names were just continents and the name of the oceans. I was thinking about leaving them as they were but IF they are actual areas you explore.. like a dungeon type area then I will change them to English, unless of course you also fight monsters in those areas on the sea, then I will swap them to English as it will be easier to list monsters in areas.. I dunno.. up to you guys if you want them translated also or not. OH! can you please spoiler those pictures? also another question.. which font type do you think that is used on the map? i'll try use the same cos it looks cool. |

I think all areas named that correlate to a position on that map would be be nice having annotated. Any font you like will please me. Taskforce is good with fonts. Maybe he has some suggestions. Here are all of the area names in the game text, for accuracy with the map. For reasons I won't go into now, you will not be able to place all of these names on that map. Spoiler! :

Hehe, might surprise you guys that I'd say this. However, text on maps and such doesn't really matter to me as long as it is readable. It bothers me more in games because of the not nice things old TV's do to thin fonts (especially white thin fonts). Now, I realize that 90%+ of people probably no longer have tube TV's, however being that the SNES is made for such TV's. I still like planning for them, not to mention I still want to accommodate everyone I can. Just make it readable - which means as long as its not news print or ghost text - and I'm happy. |
